Download the Chrome build, extract the zip, and load it into Chrome as an unpacked extension. The whole process takes just a couple of minutes.

Why isn't this on the Chrome Web Store? Google doesn't allow YouTube downloaders in the Chrome Web Store — their policies prohibit extensions that download content from YouTube. That's why this manual "unpacked extension" install is the only way to get the Chrome build. It works exactly the same as a store extension; it just takes one extra step to load.

Download the zip, extract it, enable Developer Mode in Chrome, then load the unpacked extension folder.

Download the Chrome Build Zip

Grab the Chrome build zip from the download section below. It contains the unpacked extension files you'll load into Chrome.

Save addon-24.5_chrome.zip somewhere easy to find — your Downloads folder or Desktop works perfectly. You'll need to locate it again in the next step.

Extract the Zip File

Locate the downloaded zip and extract (unzip) it. You'll end up with a folder containing manifest.json and other extension files. Keep this folder somewhere safe — Chrome reads the extension directly from it.

On Windows: right-click the zip → "Extract All…". On macOS: double-click the zip. On Linux: right-click → "Extract Here" or run unzip addon-24.5_chrome.zip.
Don't delete or move the extracted folder after loading it into Chrome. The extension is loaded from that folder — if you remove it, Chrome will disable the extension.

Open Chrome Extensions & Enable Developer Mode

Open a new Chrome tab and type chrome://extensions in the address bar. Then flip the "Developer mode" toggle in the top-right corner — this reveals the buttons needed to load unpacked extensions.

Once Developer mode is on, you'll see three new buttons appear at the top of the page: "Load unpacked", "Pack extension", and "Update". You're ready for the final step.

Click "Load Unpacked" & Pick the Folder 🎉

Click the "Load unpacked" button, then navigate to the extracted folder from Step 2. Select the folder (not the zip!) and click "Select Folder". Chrome will load it instantly — you'll see the extension card appear with its icon, name and version.

Pin the extension to your toolbar by clicking the puzzle-piece icon at the top right of Chrome, then the pin next to Easy Youtube Video Downloader. That's it — you're all set!
If you see an error like "Manifest file is missing or unreadable", you probably selected the wrong folder. Make sure you pick the folder that directly contains manifest.json — not its parent.
